Short Biography

Born in Somerset, she studied singing and violin at WCMD and at RCM, where she was the first recipient of the Peter Pears Exhibition award. She has appeared as a soloist with the City of London Sinfonia and London Mozart Players and in recordings with London Voices, London Sinfonietta Voices, Monteverdi Choir, Musicians of the Globe and the Gabrieli Consort. Performances abroad have included recitals in Israel and the US and Carmina Burana in the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival.

Opera roles include Una Novizia (Suor Angelica), in a recording for EMI under Antonio Pappano, and Queen of the Night (Kentish Opera, Opera a La Carte).

She is also a keen promoter of contemporary repertory, engagements including the UK premieres of new works by Philippe Manoury (with Strasbourg PO) and by Benedict Mason, and in recording works by David Snell and Nick Strimple (with LSO) and Sofia Gubaidulina (for EMI under Rostropovich).

Her most recent engagements have been performances of Stravinsky’s Les Noces for the Royal Ballet at the Royal Opera House and a series of live film performances in Melbourne with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra of Howard Shore’s score, The Lord of The Rings.
